Sophia College, founded in 1940, is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The Governing Body of the Society for the Higher Education of Women in India runs the College. The Religious Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and lay staff form the staff of the College.

The Society of the Sacred Heart was founded in France in 1800, by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat. It is dedicated mainly to the all-round education of youth. There are now a number of schools and colleges of the Society all over the world, besides widespread innovative non-formal involvements. According to a long-standing tradition, the staff takes a personal interest in the harmonious growth of each student entrusted to their care.

THE FACULTY OF SCIENCE occupies a separate building, the BHABHA INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE, and is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, a common instruments room, classrooms and a large auditorium. Junior College Science laboratories are also located in this building. The Sophia Centre for Women’s Studies and Development, the Sophia J. N. Heredia Counselling Centre and a fully equipped Audio-Visual Hall are located in the SOPHIA ANDERSSON ANNEXE.

Kishinchand Chellaram College is one of the premier institutions affiliated to the University of Mumbai and recognized by Government of Maharashtra. Jai Hind is a  College in Mumbai,India,was established in 1948 by a small band of dedicated teachers of the D.J Sind College Karachi. A tragic world event, the partition of India, had driven them from their homes, their friends, and their work place. Weaker men would have succumbed to such adversities, but these were men of stronger mettle. They came to Bombay, and persevered in the face of all odds to achieve their goal of setting up an educational institution to which they could contribute their expertise, their knowledge, and their skills. This was also their way of paying back, in substantial measure, the debt they felt they owed to the land that had offered them refuge and security. But it served another purpose as well, for it enabled them to retrieve their own self respect which circumstances had so badly bruised. Thus Jai Hind College was born.

Jai Hind College was not always big. It was very small indeed when it was born, in the wake of the Partition of India, in August 1947. The men who played a major role in its creation were professors of D.J. Sind College, Karachi, assisted by a few other educationists, who came together under the banner of the Sind Educationists’ Association headed by the founder Principal, Prof T. M. Advani.
